The Gold

The gold set into every coaster is genuine alluvial gold recovered from the Robinson family farm here on the West Coast. It is the same gold that has drawn people to this coast since the 1860s, washed down from the Southern Alps and settled into the river flats — caught, cleaned and set by hand.

The quantity and value of gold in your coaster will be comparable to the coasters shown in the photographs. As with any natural material, the flakes differ in shape and spread from one piece to the next.

The Coaster

Each coaster is finished by hand, and the timber grain will vary from piece to piece. Colour, figure and the way the grain runs are decided by the wood itself, so the coaster you receive will not be identical to the one photographed — it will be its own.

That variation is the point. No two are the same, and each one carries a small piece of West Coast gold that came out of the ground just down the road from where it was made.
